The square is the point. Compare it with a 30x60 at similar area: the 30x60 seats slightly more, but nobody in a 40x40 is more than 28 feet from the centre. For anything performed, presented or displayed, that difference decides the sale.

The 40-foot width decision

Moving from 30-ft to 40-ft width is a step change, not an increment. Longer frame members, heavier tops, more crew, different transport. Frame tents clear-span the full 40x40 — nothing in the centre, which is the reason to buy a square in the first place. Engineered high peak pole tents cover the area for less and look dramatic, but the centre pole lands precisely where a dance floor or display vehicle wants to be. On a square tent, that trade-off is sharper than on a rectangle.
