It sits at the midpoint of the hip rafters, tying the tubing that runs from the crown fittings down to the corner and side tee fittings along the perimeter — a critical connection on tents this large, where the hip rafters are carrying significant load across a long span.

Fits standard West Coast style frames from most major manufacturers.

Why This Hip Joint Matters

On a 40' wide frame tent, the hip rafters run a long way from peak to perimeter, and without a properly sized midpoint connection, that span can flex or misalign under load. This hip joint gives the rafter run a secure intermediate connection point, keeping the whole hip line straight and helping distribute weight evenly instead of concentrating stress at either end.

Spec

Detail

Material

1.25" Schedule 40 steel pipe, zinc-plated finish

Outside Diameter

1.656"

Inside Diameter

1.38"

Wall Thickness

0.14"

Tensile Strength

45,000 PSI

Connection Points

6 (midpoint connection along the hip rafters)

Weight

9.0 lbs

Compatibility

40' wide West Coast style Classic Frame tent systems

Shipping Method

Ships ground

SKU

1C-51205

Installation Notes from Our Install Crews

Locate the true midpoint of the hip rafter run before installing this joint — on a 40' span, even a small placement error compounds visibly by the time you reach the corner fitting. Pin all six connections and sight down the hip line before moving to the next joint, so any misalignment gets caught early rather than at final tensioning.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0610/3642/9512/files/West_Coast_Frame_Tent_6-Way_Hip_Joint_Fitting.jpg?v=1790958731
